The charm of the testing phases

The 12th September 2025, Next Fashion School in its Bologna branch, is opening its doors to the public to exhibit on the occasion of the Bologna Fashion Festival, a gallery of completed projects, alongside studio canvases, which will have their moment of visibility, with the purpose of showcase and celebrate the fitting phase where a suit is shaped to perfection with careful and calibrated adjustments.

The calico fitting represents a delicate and fundamental step in the creation of a garment: it is that moment when the design takes shape and one witnesses the concrete birth of a creative idea. The paper study moves from two to three dimensions yet remains ethereal, almost insubstantial, while the transition to calico is the consecration of a vision, the dress rehearsal, the battleground for corrections, lines, second thoughts, revisions, and improvements.

To perfect a canvas means to capture its essence and make it flawless; it is the crowning moment of prototyping that delivers to the patternmaker and the fashion designer what they have imagined in synergy.

The static exhibition will be accompanied by content on the creative process, making-of and photo shoots; Next Generation students will be on hand to explain the concepts behind their projects and the fascinating journey that sees them as creators and protagonists, from idea to execution.
