FASHION, AVANT-GARDE AND HISTORY: FIRMLY COMPLICIT

Valeria Selvini, a Fashion Design lecturer at Next Fashion School, will explain to the participants a broad temporal vision of the link between Fashion History and the avant-garde.

Virtual reading analyses how to extract the stylistic focuses of historical periods and the influences that have shaped the history of fashion, adapting them as inspiration for contemporary fashion design.

Historically, the fashion of various eras has always been a subject of interest and inspiration for creating the new, but in modern times it seems to be an established practice to revive a period and its most recognisable coordinates in order to re-evaluate and update them.

However, we need to shine a spotlight on evaluation, transformation and reasoned applications that turn into new stylistic traits, avoiding simplistic standard transpositions.

The lecture will provide examples of analysis, reflections and creative processes that the market can welcome with positivity and enthusiasm
